Gianfranco Biondi was born in 1944. His education consists of a Laurea in Biological Sciences at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (1973) and of a Diploma di Perfezionamento in Medical Statistics, at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (1979).
He has been Associate Professor of Human Population Biology in the University of Turin, Italy (1992-2001). From 2001, he is Full Professor of Anthropology at the University of L’Aquila, Italy.
Biondi is Member of the Editorial Boards of the Annals of Human Biology, of the Journal of Biosocial Science, and of the Przeglad Antropologiczny-Antrhopological Review. He is Scientific Leader of various programmes of the National Research Council (CNR, Italy).
He has been Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Genetics and Biometry, University College London, UK (1983) and in the Department of Biological Anthropology, University of Cambridge, UK (1989, 1991).
His research interests are Biodemography, History of Anthropology and Human evolution. He is author of books on human evolution, several articles on international and national scientific journals, chapters of scientific books, popular articles in newspapers and scientific magazines. Curator of national exhibitions on human evolution. He has appeared on several Rai Educational and National Geographic Channel television programs and has given interviews on Radio 1 and Radio 3 programs. Since June 2007, he is author of a blog, reporting news on human evolution, of nova100 ilsole24ore (http://rickardsbiondi.nova100.ilsole24ore.com/).
